Finally, a one of the coolest features Skype, known as Skype Translator, is undergoing a major and significant expansion today. What was once limited to Skype-to-Skype calls is also expanding to calls to landlines and mobiles.
This new capacity is present for those users who are part of the Windows Insider program. At the moment, it is only available as part of the Windows Insider beta, which means the latest Skype Preview build is required for it to work.
I also know you need Skype credits to be able to make a call, since both landline and mobile phone numbers require a payment from you. If you pass all the requirements, you will be able to use Skype Translator in calls to mobiles and landlines.
The option to activate Skype Translator will appear in the dialer when you enter the number you are called. By clicking on the translation button that appears next to the call, you can select the languages and be ready for the call. When the person takes the call, they will hear a message advising them that it will be recorded for Skype Translator purposes.
Skype Translator is available at nine languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic and Russian. Presumably more languages will be supported and added to Skype Translator as it matures.
Anyway, you have to think that Skype Translator not quite perfect, although Skype maintains that the experience can be improved when using headphones. Other new features that will be coming to Skype Preview is the inclusion of the ability to send video messages to contacts, even if they are not online, and the ability to forward calls to landlines or mobile phones. If you meet all the aforementioned conditions, you will be able to use Skype Translator now.
