It's nothing new that Microsoft is relentlessly working on its video game consoles. Following its slim model, it seems that in a few months we'll see a new version of the Xbox One, also known as Scorpio or Xbox One Two , on the market.
This model shouldn't be confused with the Slim model, which will still be a smaller version of the current Xbox One. We'll see that version this year, but the Xbox One Scorpio will likely be released sometime in 2017 , although its specifications are already being leaked.
Xbox One Scorpio will be more powerful than future generations of game consoles
Currently, several sources close to Microsoft have discussed the Xbox One Scorpio's performance in teraflops, a somewhat imprecise measurement but one that can serve as a benchmark for comparing current consoles and Microsoft's new console. According to this metric, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 would have less than 2 teraflops of computing power, while the new Xbox One Scorpio would exceed 6 teraflops . It will also surpass upcoming consoles, especially the new PlayStation 4 Neo, which is expected to reach only 4 teraflops.
These figures may be accurate, we don't doubt it, but this doesn't mean that Scorpio will be the most powerful video game console on the market, since we still have to see how developers utilize this hardware and whether the software's performance and usability are really as effective as claimed.
Something similar happened with the current generation of video game consoles, which were more powerful than the software could handle and were sold with limited capabilities for optimal performance. Let's hope Scorpio doesn't suffer the same fate and that it not only has great games but can also effectively handle 4K playback ; it seems to be the minimum resolution for the near future, don't you think?
