Windows Defender is the default security tool on Windows 10 computers . It generally works well. However, you might occasionally receive a notification that a threat has been detected on your computer. But when you check, you'll find nothing there. This is known as a false positive.
These false positives in Windows Defender can be annoying , since we're receiving notifications even though nothing is happening on the computer. There's no single solution, but there are a couple of things we can do to stop them from being a problem. We'll tell you more below.
The first thing we can do is open Windows Defender and perform a quick scan , which only takes a couple of minutes. This will most likely make the icon that's falsely warning us of a threat disappear. It's also a good idea to check if the firewall is enabled on your computer.
The problem might be with Windows Defender notifications . Therefore, we can modify them by going to Windows 10 settings. Go to System, then Notifications & actions. There, go to the section for "Show notifications from these senders" and disable it. Then go to Defender settings and check if you need to block files on the network or quarantine files.
Next, go to Task Manager and look for the Windows Defender notifications icon , if it appears. If it does, right-click it and select End task. This should resolve the issue. You may need to restart your computer.
But, with these steps we should be able to forget about these false positives and the notifications that have been created unexpectedly.
