Is your Windows 11 PC taking too long to start? To solve this irritating situation there are some things we can try, from changing a configuration to updating our hardware. If you are tired of waiting, in this post we explain how to make windows 11 boot faster.
El slow start It is one of the most common problems with the Microsoft operating system, both in Windows 10 and Windows 11. Luckily, it is a relatively easy situation to correct. Especially after we have managed to identify the source of the problem.
Why is my Windows 11 PC starting slow?
Although the reasons for this abnormal behavior of Windows at boot time can be very varied, there are some causes that are more common than others. These are:
- Lack of enough hard drive space. For a fast boot without waiting, at least 250 MB of space is necessary. We recommend you read our post about How to identify the files that take up the most space on our hard drive.
- Corrupt or outdated drivers. It is another of the most common causes that cause the PC to start up too slowly. Luckily, it's also one of the easiest problems to fix.
- Programs that start automatically during startup. The more programs that behave in this way we have installed, the slower our PC will start up.
The solutions that we present below serve to resolve the majority of situations caused by some of these three cases.
Methods to make Windows 11 boot faster
Let's see below what to do to get rid of the annoying waits during the Windows 11 startup process. We recommend trying each of these methods in the order in which they are shown in this entry:
Windows 11 Fast Startup Mode
In Windows 11 there is an option called "quick start mode" which allows us to improve the boot time of our PC without complications. The key to how it works is that the startup programs are loaded from an existing file instead of starting from scratch.
These are the steps to activate Windows 11 fast startup mode:
- First we go to Control panel from our PC.
- Then we click on "Security system".
- From there we go to «Options and energy».
- Then we select "Change the function of the power buttons."
- On the next page that opens, we click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable."
- Finally, we enable the option "Enable fast startup (recommended)" and save the changes.
Thus, the next time we turn on the PC, we will notice how Windows loads much faster.
This is a method that is truly useful, although it is also true that by enabling this function not all Windows updates will be installed correctly when we turn off the PC. This is because Quick Start does not completely turn on or turn off our computer.
Remove programs from the Windows 11 startup list
We said it before: every time we turn on our PC, an indeterminate number of programs start. applications that hinder the computer's startup speed. Eliminating the applications that we do not need from this startup list will help us improve boot time. This is what needs to be done:
- To start we go to "Task Manager" of the PC.
- In the list of options, we click on the tab "Start".
- There is shown a list of applications that start automatically every time we turn on the PC. What we must do is look for those that we do not want to open, one by one. Then we right click on each of them and select "Deactivate".
Important: when choosing the applications that we are going to disable when starting the computer, we must be very careful, since we can interrupt the services on which it depends. For example, if we deactivate Dropbox or Google Drive, our files will not be automatically synchronized when we turn on the PC.
Upgrade SSD and RAM
Most PCs currently running Windows 11 typically use a SSD (solid state drive) instead of the traditional hard drive. In principle, the SSD provides more speed, but sometimes there is no choice but to replace it when it begins to fail.
Another formula that may work is Upgrade RAM to improve PC boot time. The greater the volume of RAM, the more volatile memory the computer will have available to load temporary elements. This results in improved boot time, as well as an overall improvement in your PC's performance.
Beyond all these recommendations, in order to improve the speed and performance of our PC with Windows 11, we encourage you to read our previous posts about how to optimize the performance and speed of your Windows PC and how to find out the speed of your SSD or hard drive.
