For several years, making video calls from anywhere and / or device has been very simple thanks to the cameras of both smartphones and tablets and laptops. However, in the latter case, the quality is so lamentable that it forces us to buy a webcam if we want a minimum of quality.
If we do not want to invest money in a webcam that we know we are going to use very occasionally, we can use the camera of our smartphone or tablet through specific applications. But in addition, we can also make use of our Olympus camera, as long as it is one of the compatible models.
The Olympus firm has released new software in beta phase, software that allows us to use the Olympus camera as a webcam, which allows us to enjoy the highest possible quality when making video calls. Not all models of this manufacturer are compatible, mainly because this manufacturer is not one of the best sellers in this field.
Compatible Olympus camera models
- E-M1X
- E-M1
- E-M1 MarkII
- E-M1 Mark III
- E-M5 MarkII
Olympus software to turn our camera into a webcam is called OM-D Webcam, software in beta phase, so it may present a malfunction. This software, we can download it directly through this link and it's available for both 64-bit and 32-bit Windows, as well as macOS.
The operation of this software is the same as that of any webcam. Once we install the software, we connect the camera to our computer so that it can recognize as webcam and show it within the application options to make video calls.
The manufacturer recommends that the camera has a memory card installed so that the video quality is not affected. Once the camera is connected to the equipment, we must select the Auto mode.
