We have had Windows 10 among us for a long time but despite this, after several months, it is now when we can say that the Microsoft platform is interesting. In the desktop version, users have many new features that make Windows an ideal operating system.
Microsoft's mobile world, despite not living at its best, the Microsoft Store allows us to have apps that we could only have on the desktop. In the world of video games, the advances are also remarkable, but And in the IoT? What about free plates? Can we use Windows 10 IoT Core?
We can currently install Windows 10 IoT Core on Raspberry Pi and Dragonboard boards. The first has an interesting price and a great community so it is worth installing Windows 10 IoT Core on it.
Windows 10 IoT Core is available for free
In addition, this time, Windows 10 IoT Core continues being free so we can create our robots or smart devices with Windows 10. To install Windows 10 IoT Core on Raspberry Pi 3, we will first need the following:
- Raspberry Pi 3
- Class 10 microsd card with a usb adapter
- hdmi cable
- 5V microusb power cable.
Having this, now we have to go to Microsoft Download Center and download the Windows 10 IoT Core Dashboard app. This application will help us to install Windows 10 IoT Core on the Raspberry Pi board. Once we have downloaded it, we connect the microsd card to our computer thanks to the usb adapter.
We execute the Dashboard application and a window will appear where we will have to select our board, in this case Raspberry Pi 3, in which unit to save and install Windows 10 IoT Core.
The name of the device and the administrator password that we will use. We mark the license agreement and we can press the button «Download and install». The microsd card creation process will begin; when i finish, we have to disconnect the microsd card and install it in the Raspberry Pi.
Once we start the board, our connected device will appear in the DashBoard application. Through the "try some examples" option of this application we can send apps that can be run on our Raspberry Pi 3.
Windows 10 IoT Core does not work like a classic operating system but rather is a Windows 10 extension that will allow us to run and install our own apps that we create for Windows 10 and for Raspberry Pi 3. This can be achieved thanks to Visual Studio Code and all for free.
