mega cloud

In the last times MEGA (also known as MEGA cloud) has become the reference cloud storage service, accessible from any operating system (obviously, Windows too) and from any mobile device with internet.

The list of MEGA cloud utilities is enormous: it helps us to save, share or exchange any type of files, totally free. In addition, it is available in several languages. It is a service launched in January 2013 developed by Mega Ltd. If you want to know more about its history and all the possibilities it offers us, we invite you to continue reading this post.

It is possible that the name of MegaUpload, the famous file hosting service launched in 2005 by the controversial German hacker Kim Dotcom (and which was persecuted and finally closed in 2012). Well, MEGA is a continuation of that project. A service that, above all, hoists the flag of privacy and almost absolute security, thanks to the RSA 2048-bit encryption cipher system, whose control is entirely in the hands of the user.

What kind of documents or files can the MEGA cloud manage? Everything we can imagine: from photos, e-books, songs and videos to video games, movies and even large software packages.

This is how MEGA works

mega cloud

With the exception of domains located in the United States, MEGA's way of working is that of a large P2P network (Peer-to-Peer), in which numerous servers around the world are responsible for storing all encrypted files. In other words: a central server is dispensed with, which results in a large increase in network bandwidth capacity.

Also as a consequence of this dispersion of servers, the upload and download speed is much higher than that of other services. Besides, the free storage space offered by MEGA is 50 GB, an unbeatable figure for the competition. This amount can be extended through different payment plans:

  • ProLite, which includes 400 GB + 1 TB of bandwidth. Price: €4,99 per month.
  • Pro I, allows you to store up to 2 TB + 2 TB of bandwidth. Price: €9,99 per month.
  • Pro II, storage up to 8 TB + 8 TB of bandwidth. Price: €19,99 per month.
  • ProIII, the most ambitious plan, to store up to 16 TB + 16 TB of bandwidth. Price: €29,99 per month.

In addition to these plans, for companies there is a Business plan which, among other things, offers the following:

  • Access from any computer or mobile device.
  • Unlimited file storage and transfer.
  • User account management tools.
  • Calls and sending/receiving documents to customers and suppliers.

La to maximise security and your enjoyment., as we said, is one of the great arguments of the MEGA cloud. The best way to understand it is to illustrate this with an example: when a user tries to download a file, he receives a decryption key totally personalized that not even MEGA has access to. In any case, as there is a guarantee of protection and security for the files stored in the cloud, our information can be kept safely for a long time.

How to use MEGA

mega share

The way to use the MEGA platform is very simple. We only have to access their website (https://mega.com.nz) and complete the registration by providing a username, email and password. After that, we can already upload and share any type of files, whatever their size and format.

Upload files and folders

Both for one thing and for the other, the method is the same. There are two ways to do it:

  • Method 1: One or several files (or folders) are selected and dragged to the red screen that says MEGA. In a matter of seconds, these will go to the server.
  • Method 2: In the administrator, we go to the “Upload file” option. After clicking on it, a dialog box opens, where we can select files and folders. Then, you have to press the “Open” button.

Share files and folders

This is the method to share files and folders through MEGA,

  1. First, you have to upload the file or folder to share to MEGA.
  2. Then you have to click on the uploaded file, after which a link is generated to send to the recipient, that is, the user with whom we want to share the file.
  3. In the end, for the recipient to download the sent file, they just have to click on it and select the "Get link" option. With this, a text link is generated to download.

The method is much easier when both users, both sender and receiver, have a MEGA account. For these cases, there are three file sharing options:

  • With full access, in which it is possible to read, delete or upload other files.
  • Reading and writing.
  • Read-only.
