Nobody could have imagined that Microsoft would announce today not just one console, but two that it has pulled out of its hat to surprise everyone present at this unmissable event for the video game industry.
So, apart from announcing the new Xbox One S , the Redmond giant has also unveiled Project Scorpio, another new Xbox that will arrive in 2017 to compete against the imminent PlayStation Neo and with the goal of taking the crown as the most powerful video game console on the market.
What surprised attendees was Microsoft's choice of announcing the Xbox One S to talk about its next new console. But the reason behind this is to let developers know that this machine will arrive next year and inspire them to create new video games with the added potential of Scorpio.
"We announced Scorpio today because we want to give developers a preview of what this machine will be like in 2017 and see how inspired they'll be when they start creating with its full potential and capabilities. It's here, everyone knows it. It's currently the most powerful console ever created ."
Loftis went on to add that Scorpio is the next step in the Xbox One family of consoles, meaning that games developed for the Xbox One will work on the original Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Project Scorpio.
Regarding performance, Loftis mentioned that Project Scorpio will feature true native 4K instead of simulated 4K. Scorpio will bring support for high-definition VR, allowing developers to enter the virtual reality gaming market. Loftis maintains that games released this year will look better on Scorpio thanks to dynamic scaling.
Loftis on graphics performance:
"The graphical power means we can render native 4K, instead of using simulated 4K. So developers currently designing 4K titles for PC can have a great experience on your console as well . The other important aspect is that it will be able to mirror high-definition VR."
And we won't hear about Project Scorpio again until next year's E3, when it will be properly revealed . Today's news is more of a teaser to whet our appetites.
