A laptop equipped with a good touchpad can make even the most reluctant users get used to its operation, permanently forgetting about the mouse. But for that to happen, you have to try count on him touchpad as accurate as possible, easy and fluid handling, with a good response.
This is a great invention, especially valued by those people who are forced to move and use the computer anywhere. In complete comfort, without having to carry the mouse or fight with cables. But it is inevitable that, with the passage of time, that touchpad or touch panel begins to function with less and less precision.
Although this invention is almost as old as laptop computers themselves, the truth is that its use did not become widespread until the beginning of the XNUMXst century. In almost all models, this It is located near the keyboard and can be operated by simple finger movements. The most modern models allow the use of several fingers, thus allowing actions such as zooming in and out or scrolling on the screen.
It is a very practical tool, especially valued by those people who are forced to move and use the computer anywhere. In complete comfort, without having to carry the mouse or fight with cables. But it is inevitable that, with the passage of time, that touchpad or touch panel begins to function with less and less precision.
What to do to improve touch panel performance? It is possible to have a more precise touchpad or at least recover its original agility and reliability through certain Windows 10 options. If that is your goal, what follows will interest you:
Update touchpad driver

This is the first check that must be carried out. On some occasions, a configuration error occurs and we may find that the driver we are using is not the right one. This causes compatibility errors to occur.
The method to perform this verification is the same as we use to verify any other driver. These are the steps to follow:
- First of all let's go to Control panel and there we open the Device administrator.
- select "Mouse and other pointing devices" and we click on the touchpad of our laptop
- Finally, we press the right mouse button to open a new options box. There we choose "Update driver".
Then all that remains is to wait for the update process to finish and check that the touchpad works normally again.
If this method does not work, we will repeat the same steps with a small variation: when accessing the options box in step number 3, we will select the "Uninstall the driver" option to proceed to install a new one.
Change touchpad sensitivity

Another way to make our touchpad more precise and recover its original functioning is change device sensitivity parameters. Sometimes a simple touch-up is enough to get you back to a high-performance touchpad. This is how we can do it:
- First we go to the menu Configuration of Windows 10.
- Then we select the option Devices.
- On the next screen that appears, we click on "Touch panel", option that appears in the left column.
- At this point, a drop-down menu titled «Touch panel sensitivity». This is where we must make the modifications we need.
Sensitivity levels
To start with, we have four different degrees of sensitivity to choose from: low, medium, high and maximum. Then, we can activate or deactivate a series of options related to the touchpad:
- Tap with one finger to click.
- Press with two fingers to right-click.
- Double-tap and drag to select multiple items.
- Press the bottom right corner of the touchpad to right-click.
- Drag with two fingers to scroll (you can choose whether the scroll is up or down).
- Pinch your fingers to zoom.
Touchpad using three and four fingers
Finally, we must also comment on the existence of some options that can be configured to be able to operate the touch panel with three or four fingers.

In touch panel settings using three fingers You can choose several categories in the dropdown:
- Change audio and volume (the movement of the fingers will help us change tracks and increase or decrease the volume)
- Switch applications and show desktop (the first, with movement from left to right and the second from top to bottom).
- Switch desktop and show desktop.
- Nothing, option with which none of the previous options is selected.
In addition to this, in the lower drop-down «Pulses» You can choose between Start Windows Search, access the Action Center, Play/Pause or Middle Mouse Button. All these options are equally configurable through the four finger mode.
