Microsoft's most popular office suite received a minor update this week for its mobile version . Specifically, its four main applications ( Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote ) were improved through the Windows Insider program, so they won't be available to all users until they pass the company's testing process.
Windows Office and its sister suite, Office Mobile, have become leaders in the office suite field thanks to their strong market presence. Despite the existence of numerous alternative applications, none fully emulate their features. This is an achievement of which Microsoft should be proud.
Word Mobile
Word reached version 17.6741.47692 on mobile and 17.6741.47691 on PC this week. Both platforms share the same new feature: the ability to pin files to the Windows 10 Start menu. This is done by pressing the Start button and, in the file list, selecting the arrow next to the file you want to pin to the Start menu. The desktop version also now includes the ability to write with a stylus , either with a stylus or your finger. This new feature brings the desktop version one step closer to the mobile version. To access this feature, simply click on the Draw tab.
PowerPoint Mobile
PowerPoint has received version 17.6741.42591 on PC and 17.6741.42592 on Mobile. As was the case in Word, the presentation application has received the option of anchoring files to the start menu and writing in pencil (the latter only for the PC edition). Additionally, Power Point has been added the ability to insert images directly from the camera, being able to open it directly from the application. In order to insert it into a slide, we must first access the menu Insert> Pictures> Camera. This functionality is available for both platforms.
Excel Mobile
Microsoft Excel has received version 17.6741.50142 for mobile and 17.6741.50141 for desktop this week. In addition to the ability to pin files to the home screen and the pen feature (the latter only available on PC), Excel has added the ability to convert a table into a range . This new option allows you to quickly and easily convert a table into unformatted columns and rows , which you can then edit when you need more flexibility and customization. Microsoft has also added the ability to expand and collapse columns and rows in groups . Both features are available on both PC and mobile devices.
OneNote
The last application that we had to comment on in the news was OneNote, which this week received an update with version 17.6741.18102 on Mobile and version 17.6741.18101 on PC. Checking the news that the application includes through the Microsoft Store, we see that the App has been improved with the following list of news:
- possibility of play our favorite videos from portals like YouTube, TED, Office Mix and many more sites. It is only necessary to paste the link in a note and prepare to enjoy the show with some good popcorn.
- It's already possible create our own interactive web story hand in hand with Sway. We can embed it in the notes just by pasting the link.
- Now we can group multiple handwritten drawings and note if we select them with the right button. In this way they will move and behave as a single object while we edit our note.
- Possible visualize who else is working on the same notebook through the shared function.
