There are more and more situations in which it is useful to be able to record what is shown on the computer screen. Until relatively recently, this was only common in the world of Gaming (gamers recording themselves while playing), but with the rise of teleworking it has become even more widespread. That's why we are all interested in knowing how to record screen in Windows 11.

The cases in which this can be very practical are diverse. For example, it can be used to explain how to use a program or tool in a more visual and direct way. A commented video can be the most effective instruction manual.

There are several ways to record the screen with audio in Windows 11. These are the ones we have at our disposal:

With the Xbox Game Bar

La xbox game bar It is an element that is already installed by default on any PC with Windows 11. Among its many uses, it also includes recording the screen with audio. First we must configure Xbox Gamer Bar and then proceed to recording. To achieve this, you must do the following:

  1. First of all, we use the key combination Windows + G to open the application (another way to do it is to use the search engine and type "Xbox Game Bar" in it).
  2. Then we select the icon "Capture" in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
  3. Next, we go to the option "Audio", where we have two options:
    • “All” to capture all system sounds.
    • "Game" to record only the audio of the current application.
  4. Finally, we exit the configuration menu by pressing the key Esc.

Once we have correctly configured the Xbox Game Bar, we can now record the screen in Windows 11 whenever we need to. All you have to do is this:

  1. We open the application or game that we want to record.
  2. Then we press the key Windows+Alt+R to open the Xbox Game Bar.
  3. In the window "Capture" we choose the option "Engrave", after which a small screen will appear in the upper right corner. This will start the recording.
  4. To stop recording, we can use the button "Stop" or press the Windows + Alt + R keys again.

The recorded videos will be automatically saved in the "Videos" folder under "Files".

Important: If we only want to record the image without the audio, we must use the Windows + Alt + M key combination to turn the microphone on or off.

With PowerPoint

Although many users ignore it, it is also possible to record the screen in Windows 11 through Microsoft PowerPoint. This application has a recorder that will allow us to carry out this task, as long as we have a Microsoft Office subscription. How should we proceed? These are the steps:

  1. To start, we open a blank presentation in PowerPoint.
  2. There, we go to the tab "Insert".
  3. Then we select "Media" and then Screen recording.
  4. The next step is to click “Select area in screen recorder window” and define the area we want to capture.*
  5. We press the button "Engrave" to start recording.
  6. We press "Stop" (or we use the Windows + Shift + Q key combination) to stop recording.

The recording made will be shown on the slide itself. To save it as an MP4 file, we right click on the video and select the "Save media as" option.

(*) If we want the sound to also be recorded, we must make sure that the "Audio" button is activated. On the other hand, so that the mouse cursor does not appear, the "Record Pointer" option must be disabled.

If, instead of a video, what we want to do is simply take a screenshot in Windows 11, there are other interesting options. We can use any of the following two to obtain the result we are looking for:

Print Screen

It is the most classic resource. This key is found on all keyboards, although sometimes with a different name (Print Screen, PrintPnt, Print Screen PrtScn...). By pressing this key, we are taking a "photo" of what appears on the screen at that moment. The capture is saved on the clipboard. Then, we can paste it into another application with the Ctrl + V key combination.

Snipping Tool

Windows 11 brought notable improvements to the Snipping tool. There we will be able to choose between four types of capture: rectangular mode, window, full screen or free mode, which means greater versatility than the previous Print Screen option.

In addition to this, the tool offers us a practical function called "Delay", to apply a time margin between the moment you click and the moment the image is actually captured. There are four possibilities: 3, 5, 10 seconds or without delay.
