Despite being considered the best word processing program that currently exists, Microsoft Word still has some shortcomings that its users know quite well. One of them is web editing, and it is often difficult to import content from the Internet into a document. But there are always solutions. In this post we are going to see how to save a web page to a word document In a simple way.
Before starting our tutorial, it is important to note that transferring all the content of a web page to a text editor is practically an impossible mission. However, it is possible to import the information on this page into a Word document and then format it in another way. That is what we explain below.
We are also going to see how you can perform the reverse operation, that is, convert the content of a Word document into a web page so that it is accessible online. This is another utility with many practical applications that are worth learning how to use.
Transfer website content to a Word document
In 2019, a Chrome extension which was launched whose name left no room for doubt: Save Webpage As Word Document. Although it worked quite well, unfortunately, it is no longer operational. Luckily, there is a good alternative in the Chrome Store: Webpage to DOCX.
This is a very practical resource with which dump all web page content into a Word document. The application reads the content of any web page and sends it to the GrabzIt API (who are the creators of the tool) for conversion. Once done, it can be downloaded without problems to our computer.
To use this method, all you have to do is download the application, follow the instructions that appear on the screen to obtain a free application key and access it. There is also a version for use with Firefox.
In addition to this, we also have some interesting online tools to carry out this task. Not all of them offer the same level of quality and precision, although there are others that can be trusted. One of them is the popular website FreeConvert, which offers many format conversion options. Also from html to Word.
The method of use is very simple: you just have to enter from URL whose content we want to transfer to Word and click on the button "Turn into". Before we can configure a series of options such as the size and orientation of the page, the margins to apply or the capture delay time (the seconds to wait before capturing the page).
In the free version, the maximum allowed file size is 1 GB. The time required for the process will obviously depend on the size of the text. If the website has a lot of content, it is advisable to do it in fragments, for example, by pages. Or in the case of a blog, each entry individually.
In order to protect our security and privacy, converted files are automatically deleted after one hour from the time of conversion.
Save a Word document as a web page
Sometimes it can be interesting save certain documents in the form of a web page. The great advantage of this is that they can be accessed from any browser, at any time and from any location. Depending on what we want, it is a very simple way to share information with other people.
The solution is to use a tool integrated into Word called “PWeb page, filtered». With this feature, Word preserves content and styling instructions in a relatively small file, without using additional code. These are the steps to follow to save a Word document as a web page:
- To begin, with the document open, we go to the Word toolbar and click on the tab "File".
- There we select the option "Save as" and we choose the location where we want to save the document.
- Then we assign a name to the file and, in the list "Save as type", we choose the option «Web page, filtered.
- At this point we have to click on «Change title» and there write the title that we want to appear in the web browser bar.
- Finally, we click on "Save".
If we want to save the images in a separate folder, we must choose the type of web page. Then, when publishing the web page, you will also have to do the same with the images folder.
Finally, it should be noted that there are other alternatives to save the content of a document on a website. These are some of the most practical and most used:
- As a blog post, following the path File > Share > Publish as blog post.
- In OneDrive, via File > Save As > OneDrive.
