It's not all over for Windows Phone. Despite the strong impact of Windows 10, development doesn't seem to be falling by the wayside. Slack, one of the most powerful and popular group and productivity apps on the market, is now adding calling capabilities to Windows Phone . Currently, like hundreds of other apps, Slack is in beta, but its performance on Windows Phone devices appears to be quite good. Windows Phone enthusiasts will welcome this news.
The Slack calling experience isn't the best right now, but it works, which is what matters. Simply tap the phone button that appears below your group member's profile. A voice chat will automatically open. If it works as intended and becomes popular, it could definitely be a major blow to Skype for Business, Microsoft's enterprise project based on Skype. The development team has been asked about the arrival of this feature on Windows Phone, and the official Slack Twitter account responded:
We are working on it. The Windows Phone application is now in Beta, so we hope to improve it little by little, the road is going to be long.
Therefore, they don't know when, how, or where, but Slack calls for Windows Phone are coming. Hope springs eternal. Windows Phone development and market share are inevitably declining, and it seems it's only a matter of time before Microsoft announces its discontinuation, at least if they don't take decisive action. The reality is that developers haven't embraced the initiative, and that's a shame. The system was fluid and efficient.
