One of the most common headache problems for Windows users is related to network connections, specifically with the message unidentified network, since, unfortunately, there may be many reasons why our computer, managed by Windows 10 or Windows 11, cannot connect to the network.
The main reason why our team can show the message network not found is related to a wrong IP configuration, although we must bear in mind that the problem may not be related only to our equipment, but may affect external agents not related to the configuration of our equipment.
Next, we show you the main reasons and solutions when Windows 10 and Windows 11 do not identify the network or it is not able to connect properly.
Change the network cable
If you have connected your equipment to the router using a cable and not through the Wi-Fi connection, it is likely that the cable has come loose or is damaged, especially if we have animals at home those who like cables, such as cats.
Si the cable is damaged, it may not work properly and we may be forced to replace it.
Check if you have airplane mode connected
As absurd as it may seem, the reason why our equipment cannot connect to the network is because we have deactivated all the connections of our equipment activating the airplane mode.
This way, works in the same way as on mobile devicesTherefore, if we have it activated, the Wi-Fi and bluetooth connections will stop working. However, the network connection via RJ-45 cable will not be affected.
If your device only connects via Wi-Fi, you should also check the notification center icon for the Wi-Fi signal is activated. To check whether the airplane mode and the Wi-Fi connection is activated, you must access the notification center (Windows key + a).
Restart the router
A problem much more common than it may initially seem When our equipment does not connect to the internet, it is not related to our equipment, but to our router or directly to the internet provider.
In order to resolve problems, the first thing we must do is restart our router. These devices are prepared to work for months without turning off, however, it never hurts to give them a little respite by turning it off and on.
If the connection still does not work, we must observe if the router shows any lights in red or orange. If this is the case, and it did not do it before, it may be a symptom that the problem is not with our equipment, nor with the router, but with our provider's connection.
Update network controllers
Sometimes, the reason why our equipment cannot connect to the internet is due to a problem with the network card or motherboard software if this connection is integrated. If the equipment is relatively modern, it is likely that the manufacturer has released a new version of the software that is interfering with its operation.
If so, the manufacturer is most likely aware of those issues and has released a new update of the driver that manages network connections.
- To check if there is a new version of the software for our network card, we go to the Cortana search box and type Device administrator.
- Next, we press Network adapters, and click twice on the Wi-Fi (represented by 802.11xx) or network (Gigabit Ethernet) controller.
- Finally, we go to the tab Controller and click on Update Driver.
Disable Firewall
Windows Firewall is a barrier that allows applications to connect to the internet, as long as the user previously gives the consent. However, at times, it may not function properly and not even allow the system itself to connect to the internet.
If once you have disabled the firewall your computer works without problems, you should restore the default configuration, by clicking on the option Restore Defaults that we find in Control Panel - System and Security - Windows Defender Firewall.
FOR disable windows firewall, we carry out the steps that I show you below:
- In Cortana's search box, we type Control panel and click on the first result shown.
- Next, click on Security system
- Within System and Security, click on Windows Defender Firewall.
- In the Windows Defender Firewall section, in both the private and public network settings, we select the box Disable Windows Defender Firewall.
Ask Windows for help
Windows includes a network connections troubleshooter. Thanks to this solver (what an ugly word) of network problems, the team can analyze the operation of our network connection, see what is failing and automatically, solve the problem.
To access the help that Windows offers us to solve the network problems of our equipment, we place the mouse, in the task bar where the time is displayed, over the icon of the connection that we use and press the right mouse button to select Solve problems.
Then the team will analyze our team looking for problems and you will invite us to provide you with information about what type of connection is failing (Wi-Fi, Ethernet (cable) or both) to invite us to answer some questions about what is the problem that our equipment is suffering as a questionnaire.
Completely restart the connection
If none of these methods work, we can try fully reestablish the network connection of our device by flushing the DNS cache, resetting TCP / IP, renewing the IP and resetting the dynamic library of functions to re-implement TCP / IP through Winsock.
To do this, you must open the Windows command window and type, one by one, the following commands.
- ipconfig / release
- ipconfig / renew
- netsh winsock reset
- netsh int ip reset
- ipconfig / flushdns
- ipconfig / registerdns
- netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled
- netsh int tcp set global autotuning = disabled
- netsh int tcp global set rss = enabled
- netsh int tcp show global
