As the days go by, little by little, we learn details about the new operating system Windows 10 S oriented to teams with few resources and especially to the educational sector. At the moment we do not know an official date for its arrival on the market, but we have known that it will not allow the installation of applications from outside the Windows Store.
In addition we have also known that We will not be able to install any web browser other than the one that it will bring natively, which will of course be Microsoft Edge. This means that we will not be able to install Google Chrome, Opera, Firefox or Safari. Some of them are in the Windows Store available for download, but Windows 10 S will deny their installation.
This information comes from the new policies established in the Windows Store 10.2.1 where it is indicated that "The applications that use the web browser have to use the HTML and JavaScript engines offered by the Windows Platform".
Microsoft previously had problems with decisions of this type, and it is that the Anti-competition Commission already forced those of Redmond to rectify their decision not to allow the user to choose which web browser to choose when starting a computer completely new. Of course, maybe that Commission has to also take a look at Chromebooks where it is only used Google Chrome as a web browser.
At the moment and waiting for Windows 10 S to hit the market, we are learning new news about its characteristics and specifications, confirming this time something that we all took for granted.
Does it seem logical and understandable to you that in Windows 10 S we can only use Microsoft Edge as a web browser?. Tell us your opinion in the space reserved for comments on this post or through any of the social networks in which we are present.
Unfair competition!
